A 19-year-old man with a known compulsive behavior disorder became the focal point of an incident in Xirivella that involved a violent confrontation with local police. The clash drew in several relatives and neighbors after the youth described the event as a theft. An online Fantasy League football game, where thousands compete to manage teams and win rewards based on players’ performances each league day, was mentioned in connection with the incident.
Following the confrontation, the young man was subdued with a stun gun and taken into custody. Three additional individuals were arrested for their alleged involvement in the disturbance on October 16, during which the suspect allegedly struck a police officer and fractured the officer’s nose.
“Don’t draw your weapon again. We are all armed here”, shouted a relative of the 19-year-old, who has been described as having a pathology and who directed violence toward the Local Police patrol that had responded to Monte Piedad Street after a tip about a violent person armed with a blade.
When officers arrived around 5 p.m. on October 16, they found no blade on the scene, only a large stick. The man remained visibly agitated and attempted to access a vehicle.
Witnesses indicated that the suspect was attempting to account for a friend who reportedly stole a Fantasy League football player’s autograph. He continued to resist and verbally clashed with Xirivella Local Police as officers tried to mediate. The suspect yelled threats, including, I will break your mouth, and I will desecrate the dead, as the struggle persisted.
“You take the gun from my son’s hand and here we are killing each other”
Moments of heightened tension followed, with the young man’s family and friends stepping forward to intimidate the police. One relative exclaimed that the gun should be returned to the son, prompting a sharp confrontation in the street. The situation escalated to the point that the mother of the suspect was detained by authorities later in the day.
After entering a gray Audi, the suspect was pursued by another National Police patrol. As he exited the car to be identified, he allegedly punched one officer. The intervention was captured by body cameras, and footage showed the brother of the arrestee kicking another officer who sustained injuries.
Thanks to the captured footage, authorities were able to identify other individuals believed to have participated in the assault on police officers. In the days that followed, the mother, brother, and a friend of the prisoner surrendered at the Xirivella police station with legal counsel, and they are expected to face charges of assaulting a law enforcement officer and disrupting public order.
