In Valencia, police officers arrested a 35-year-old man suspected of presenting another person’s identity along with a forged payslip and bank statement to fund the purchase of a 1,356-euro mobile phone.

The incident unfolded around 7:30 pm on a Tuesday after the security team of a shopping site requested a preventive check from officers who were on duty. Law enforcement later confirmed that the documents appeared counterfeit to the examining officials.

The responding patrol speaks with the security staff and notes that a person in the customer service area attempted to finance the mobile phone with a 1,356-euro price tag by presenting a document believed to be an invoice and a DNI whose photo did not match the alleged holder, nor did the person appear familiar with the document’s details.

Store representatives verified that the document looked authentic at first glance, yet it did not correspond to the person presenting it. The individual also handed over a payslip and a bank receipt that appeared altered due to a change in the font.

Authorities confirmed the DNI belonged to a man who had reported its theft on June 21 in Pozuelo de Alarcón, near Madrid.

On these grounds, the suspect, described as of Spanish origin and not registered with local police, was taken into custody on charges of identity fraud, fraud related to financial transactions, and falsification of documents.

The suspect was detained and processed for the court proceeding, as standard in cases involving alleged identity misuse and related financial deception.
