The case of a Valencian YouTuber facing criminal charges over derogatory videos about women
A Valencian creator known for his YouTube channel published a trio of provocative videos that sparked widespread condemnation. In the clips, he directed hostile comments at women and used demeaning language. The content drew significant attention not only for its tone but for the harmful message it conveyed about gender relations. The situation escalated to legal consequences for the creator, who faced a criminal charge and was ultimately sentenced in a Spanish court. He received a prison term complemented by a financial penalty, reflecting the seriousness with which the authorities treated the offenses in question.
The conviction related to an act described in the country’s criminal code. The court found the actions to be violations of fundamental rights and public freedoms. During a formal hearing, the defendant admitted the facts and accepted the sentence proposed by the prosecutors, noting the absence of a prior criminal record and his youth at the time of the conduct. A key component of the sentence was the possibility of postponing the execution of the prison term, given these circumstances.
The court additionally imposed a retraining condition focused on equality. The aim of this requirement is to prevent reoffending and to promote a better understanding of respectful behavior in everyday interactions. The decision also included a two year probation period during which the individual must refrain from new crimes and participate in the prescribed courses.
“She deserves to be sexually abused” and the broader impact
The defendant, a 31-year-old Colombian national, posted three videos in October 2018 on a channel that had been active since 2013. In these broadcasts he spoke to the camera with explicit contempt for women, and at times he stated that a woman who refuses sexual advances should suffer abuse. He directed degrading terms toward women and repeatedly framed them as objects for male desire. The overall messaging reinforced harmful stereotypes and promoted misogynistic attitudes.
In his remarks he used demeaning phrases and offered guidance on how women should present themselves to earn respect from men. He suggested how women should dress and how they should modulate their tone and behavior to avoid provoking mistreatment. The tone shifted from crude humor to explicit instructions about control and submission, underscoring a pattern of contempt that prosecutors argued crossed into criminal territory.
The three videos garnered a considerable audience, with more than four thousand seven hundred views. The defendant did not issue an apology during or after the case, and his initial two year sentence was noted as not yet executed. The court also recognized the role of mandatory equality training as part of the resolution, indicating the judge’s view that education can help address harmful gender dynamics and reduce the risk of future offenses.
Experts and observers note that while online content can be protected as free expression in other contexts, hate speech and threats that target groups based on gender may fall outside those protections when they incite violence or degrade basic human rights. This case illustrates how judicial systems balance freedom of expression with protections against gender-based harassment and abuse. It also highlights the need for ongoing public conversation about respectful conduct, online responsibility, and the real-world impact of hostile messaging on women and society at large.
