The Valencian Community High Court has sided with the Federation of Industry, Construction and Agriculture of UGT-PV against a ruling from the General Directorate of Labour that set measures to guarantee minimum services during the indefinite strike by workers in the Alicante province who are employed by Sitval, the public company that manages the ITV service. The strike was called at the end of March and extended to nearly three months to demand the full implementation of the salary homogenization agreement.
The salary increase pact, as explained by the union, had been signed twice, most recently by the current Minister of Innovation, Industry, Trade and Tourism, Nuria Montes, on November 9, 2023. But after months of delay in its payment, workers were forced to march toward a strike to secure the agreed terms.
UGT PV emphasizes that the court has now recognized the claim filed by UGT PV alone, which argued that the strike had been called for only two days per week within a provincial scope, and that the minimum services established were abusive and disproportionate, thus infringing the right to strike. These issues are reflected in the court ruling.
The Federation of Industry, Construction and Agriculture of UGT-PV expresses satisfaction with the outcome. This sentiment was shared during a meeting held earlier this morning between the Sitval workers’ union section and the working team, led by Felix Sales, the general secretary, at the UGT PV headquarters. The discussions addressed not only the strike outcome but also matters related to the Sitval collective agreement negotiations, the upcoming public employment offer, and the internal vacancy contest process.
