The Valencian Community saw a clear surge in vehicle sales during September, continuing a trend that has accelerated beyond the national average. Industry associations for vehicle manufacturers, dealerships, and repair businesses reported a notable rise in registrations for the region, signaling a strong momentum that stands out within the country. In September, the autonomous community registered 6,356 passenger cars, marking an 11.37 percent year over year increase from 2022. Across Spain, the corresponding growth was more modest, rising 2.32 percent to 68,803 units sold, illustrating how the Valencian market is performing ahead of the national pace.

Overall, the year to date shows robust activity in the Valencian Community. Through the end of September, 62,398 new vehicles have been registered in the region, an 18 percent rise from 52,865 in the first nine months of the previous year. This strong performance reflects a broader shift toward newer vehicle technologies. Specifically, electric cars accounted for 1,737 of these registrations, a substantial 60 percent increase compared with the prior year. Hybrid models followed with 18,915 registrations, up 23.6 percent, underscoring the ongoing transition toward alternative powertrains and the tangible progress in the uptake of new vehicle types within the market.

Less promising predictions

Despite the constructive national indicators, industry observers warn that the latest data do not guarantee a smooth landing for the overall annual forecast. A spokesperson for the manufacturers’ association noted concerns tied to rising inflation and a less optimistic outlook for the year. The expectation around finishing the year with about 950,000 units may prove elusive if inflation persists and consumer spending slows, a reality that affects buyers nationwide and influences regional dynamics alike.

Similarly, a representative from the dealers’ association emphasized that the fourth quarter will be pivotal. While higher dealer inventories can create favorable buying opportunities for customers, inventories alone are unlikely to significantly alter the closing forecast. The latest projections suggest a finish near 930,000 to 940,000 registered units, a range that reflects cautious sentiment amid ongoing market adjustments. The message from industry leaders remains that while progress is evident, sustained demand and policy stability will be decisive for achieving stronger end-of-year results across the country, including the Valencian Community.
