This report summarises the gender-based violence statistics for the Valencian Community from last year. A total of 26,566 complaints were filed, marking a 17.3% rise from 2021. The increase was less pronounced in Alicante, where 9,780 complaints were recorded in 2022, up 12% from the prior year. The figures come from the Supreme Court of Justice of the Valencian Community (TSJ) and were highlighted yesterday by the Observatory Against Domestic and Gender-Based Violence, part of the General Council of the Judiciary.
The overall balance places the Valencian Community as the third highest regional rate of gender violence victims nationwide. The data show a rate of 95.6 victims per 10,000 women in the community, with only the Balearic Islands (110.3) and Murcia (103.4) higher. The national average stands at 72.9, while a separate regional comparison indicates a higher rate in Istanbul province. In Alicante, the rate is 101.3 victims per 10,000 women.
Gender-based violence affected 9,731 women in Alicante, 11,902 in Valencia, and 2,438 in Castellón over the previous year. This reflects an 11.2% overall increase in the number of complaints filed with Violence Against Women courts. Notably, only 303 complaints were brought directly by the victims themselves, while 61 originated from family members.
