Three individuals were arrested in Burjassot, Valencia, by agents from the National Police. The detainees include one woman and two men aged 30, 27 and 41. Investigators allege that they stole three vaccines valued at 1,536 euros and attempted to sell at least one dose to a pharmacy in Paterna, Valencia.
The case began on February 16 when officers from the Local Citizens’ Security Brigade conducted a preventive check. In a vehicle, they identified three people. A search of the interior uncovered a briefcase containing burglary tools and a backpack holding two packages from a courier service, along with two vaccines from a pharmaceutical company, each worth 511.50 euros.
The suspects failed to provide credible explanations for the origin of these items. As a result, the officers detained the individuals and seized the equipment and vaccines, including the corresponding packing slips. The investigation subsequently revealed that one of the suspects was previously employed by the pharmaceutical company. He allegedly planned to steal three vaccines during his time with the firm and retain them for personal gain, totaling 1,536 euros in value.
Further findings showed that one vaccine had already been sold to the Paterna pharmacy for 511 euros. The transaction used the same packing slip as the other two vaccines that were intercepted, indicating deliberate manipulation of the documents to facilitate the sale.
They concealed the proceeds from the vaccines
Law enforcement authorities established that the detained woman appeared to manage calls to pharmacies, posing as an employee of the courier company. She instructed pharmacy staff to be prepared to pay cash on delivery, creating a scenario that helped conceal the illicit money exchange during the delivery process. Financial proceeds from the vaccine theft were thus hidden as part of the operation.
Based on the evidence collected, the trio—originating from Colombia and Ecuador—face charges as alleged perpetrators of theft and related fraud. The case highlights how forged packing slips and forged claims can enable the illicit distribution of stolen pharmaceutical products.
A caption associated with the incident notes that three individuals were arrested for stealing vaccines and attempting to distribute them to Valencia pharmacies.
Additional charges include theft and burglary for two of the suspects. One of them was also charged with violating a prior judicial suspension related to the use of a motor vehicle, reflecting a pattern of unlawful behavior linked to the case.
Two of the three detainees, both with prior police records, were released after initial statements. They were not required to appear before a judicial authority at that stage. The third suspect remains in custody as the investigation continues and prosecutors evaluate potential expulsion actions in light of a criminal record.
