Overview of a Valencia homicide case and custody ruling
During a guard rotation, the Valencia Court of Instruction number 18 ordered provisional detention, communicated and without bail, for the man detained this week in Valencia in connection with the death of his sister. The case is being conducted under a homicide investigation. Instruction 18 will shortly transfer the proceedings to Instruction 15 of Valencia, which has jurisdiction to continue the inquiry.
The suspect, aged 53, was arrested by the National Police as the alleged perpetrator of his sister’s death, who was 61 years old. Initial reports indicate the accused may have strangled his sister using a pendant that the victim wore around her neck to hold keys. The crime occurred on the night of Wednesday, February 28, on Brazil Street in Valencia.
The victim, 61, sustained injuries compatible with strangulation. According to sources consulted, the siblings had frequent disputes in the past.
Not currently under a protection order
In fact, the alleged perpetrator had a protection order in place regarding his sister, with whom he lived, but the order was not active at the time. Neighbours noted that he had not been seen in the area for about a year.
Neighbors were the ones who alerted the 091 emergency center after hearing a heated confrontation between the siblings. The ongoing disputes over years, primarily related to living arrangements, had largely subsided in the past year due to the protective measure.
The incident occurred around 10 p.m. on the referenced Wednesday when uniformed officers from the National Police were called to respond to a domestic altercation between siblings.
Officers quickly arrived and found the woman deceased at the scene. After securing the area and conducting initial inquiries to clarify the events, investigators detained the brother as a suspect for homicide. A team of investigators from the homicide squad, along with forensic police, were dispatched to conduct a technical-police examination of the crime scene.
Several patrol units, homicide investigators, and forensic professionals were deployed to the location to carry out the on-site inspection and ensuing investigative procedures to gather evidence and establish the sequence of events surrounding the incident.
