Volkswagen Sagunto’s land deal moved forward this week with a notarial signing for the purchase of the site intended for a battery gigafactory. The closing followed approval by the Board of Directors of Espais Econòmics i Empresarials (EEE), a public company equally owned by the Generalitat and Sepides, alongside the signing of the sales contract between Parc Sagunt’s management entity and PowerCo. The Generalitat began the expropriation process about a year earlier.

Ximo Puig, the Generalitat’s president, confirmed that Parc Sagunt II’s plot has been sold to PowerCo, the battery arm of the Volkswagen Group. The facility is planned to become the leading battery plant in Southern Europe, positioning Spain at the forefront of electric mobility.

The plot, part of Parc Sagunt II’s development, spans roughly 1.3 million square meters and involved an investment of about 63.66 million euros.

The German automaker’s project is expected to generate more than 30,000 jobs in Valencia.

In addition to job creation, the agreement targets strengthening Spain’s industrial and commercial competitiveness.

Under the terms set in the accord among Generalitat, EEE, and PowerCo (the Volkswagen Group unit focused on battery production), momentum continues in Sagunt’s industrial and logistics development. The venture centers on a gigafactory for battery cells intended for electric vehicles produced by the Volkswagen Group.

Puig stated that the land acquisition moves the project into the implementation stage, with a direct and positive impact on the Valencia labor market.

He added that this operation opens a new era for the Valencian industry centered in Sagunt and places Spain at the forefront of sustainable mobility within the automotive sector.

SEPITS

Antonio Cervera, president of SEPIDES, underscored that purchasing land in Parc Sagunt represents a landmark move and reaffirms the entity’s commitment to a major industrial investment.

“SEPIDES is proud to participate in this significant project for the country’s future,” Cervera said.

“Today is a moment to assess how all public administrations can collaborate and contribute to Spain’s economic and social development. With the support of all parties, and the talent and determination of the team behind this effort, the project can become a reality”, Cervera added as the plan progressed.
