Civil Guards operating under the mission known as Tedium captured a substantial drug haul: 600 kilograms of cocaine stored inside a single container. The shipment was found within a designated area of the Quart de Poblet polygon in Valencia, raising alarms about a large-scale trafficking operation.

Eight individuals were taken into custody and a firearm was recovered from the person arrested. Authorities also seized more than €4,000 in cash, money believed to be connected to the alleged criminal network involved in international drug distribution.

The operation occurred within the framework of the GDIN project, or Global Medicines International Network, an initiative led by the Civil Guard and funded by the European Commission. The project’s aim is to dismantle criminal organizations through cross-border cooperation and robust information exchange among its participating countries.

The investigation began with information exchanges with Central American partners that warned of a potential shipment of large quantities of narcotics. The Civil Guard confirmed that the container was transported to Valencia aboard a commercial vessel and placed under heightened surveillance as soon as it arrived on Spanish soil.

Specialist teams monitored the container closely, suspecting it could hide drugs and that those responsible for its movement might be attempting to remove the substances. The investigation also revealed that the container belonged to a logistics company with a depot near a shooting range in Quart de Poblet, suggesting a link between the container’s logistics operations and the criminal network’s efforts to move the drugs covertly.

During the follow-up, investigators observed early indicators of the criminal group attempting to deactivate or relocate the cargo. After hours of coordinated action by several Civil Guard units, eight members of the organization were arrested and the 600 kilograms of cocaine were seized from the container, preventing a potentially massive influx of narcotics into the market.

In the course of the intervention, one detained individual sustained a severe injury while attempting to flee and was found with part of a finger missing on a stairwell where the escape was attempted. The detainees, aged between 24 and 49, face charges of drug trafficking and membership in a criminal organization. The proceedings were moved to Valencia Court of Investigation No. 13 for formal hearings.
