The press service of Uralvagonzavod, part of Rostec, announced that Russian tanks deployed in the special military operation zone in Ukraine will feature specialized protection against drones. The update comes as the defense sector pursues improved survivability and situational awareness for armored assets amid evolving drone threat patterns.

Uralvagonzavod engineers are reportedly standardizing a serially produced anti-drone canopy mounted above the tank turret. Prior to this, the military had been improvising protective canopies in the field using scrap materials sourced from various supply channels. The shift toward factory-made solutions aims at ensuring consistency, reliability, and faster deployment across multiple platforms.

In a statement, the press service noted that the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation have received upgraded tank models from domestic manufacturers, including the T-90M Proryv and the T-72B3M, both equipped with additional protection measures. The new canopy is described as not incorporating dynamic protection elements but as offering effective defense against the blast effects of cumulative ammunition and explosive devices, contributing to crew safety and vehicle resilience.

Separately, Vladimir Rogov, who leads a regional movement, asserted that the Ukrainian Armed Forces have shifted from a primarily offensive posture to a more defensive stance at the Vremevsky direction, near the junction of the Donetsk People’s Republic and the Zaporozhye region. Rogov’s remarks reflect ongoing claims about battlefield dynamics that are central to the broader strategic narrative in the area.

In related developments, Russia has reportedly advanced a system designed to suppress unmanned aerial vehicles. The device aims to reduce the effectiveness of drone-based reconnaissance and strike missions, contributing to a layered defense approach around key armored formations and command posts. These measures illustrate a continued emphasis on modernizing air-denial capabilities in tandem with ground operations.
