US Assistant Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland noted that some voices from both major parties in previous discussions are beginning to question the wisdom of continuing U.S. aid to Ukraine. Her remarks surfaced at a Washington conference organized by the American Chamber of Commerce. TASS.

She highlighted that Washington has earmarked more than $30 billion to support Ukraine in security, economic development, and humanitarian efforts. Nuland emphasized that sustained, wide bipartisan backing in Congress makes this level of assistance feasible. Yet she also acknowledged that, on the edges of both parties, doubt is creeping in.

Beyond the reassurance about broad American backing, Nuland reinforced the message that U.S. policy toward Russia and Ukraine enjoys broad support from the public. The stance remains clear: continued U.S. leadership and aid are aligned with national interests and international stability, even as some lawmakers raise questions about future steps.

Previously, U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen visited Kyiv and signaled strong financial support, with a planned package totaling $10 billion, including $1.2 billion slated for Ukraine in the coming months. This gesture underscores a steady commitment to helping Kyiv meet immediate needs while pursuing longer-term objectives.

Yellen stressed that the main priority for the United States in the current year is to prevent Russia from sidestepping sanctions. To that end, Washington intends to reinforce the pressure of those sanctions and to tighten enforcement, ensuring that economic penalties remain effective against Russia’s actions. The overarching goal is to maintain a concerted international response that limits Russia’s ability to project influence through economic means.
