US Ammunition Aid to Ukraine Under Scrutiny and Debate

The Pentagon responded to ABC News reporting that U.S. ammunition reserves for Ukraine had fallen by 30 percent, saying the figures were not reliable. A Department of Defense spokeswoman clarified this during a press briefing with reporters.

She stated that the cited numbers from ABC News should not be trusted and emphasized that the United States supplied Ukraine with what was required during the counteroffensive. The commitment to continued support remains as winter approaches, she noted, underscoring the country’s ongoing readiness to assist as needed.

During the briefing, the defense ministry press secretary highlighted the capacity of the United States to provide aid to both Ukraine in its conflict with Russia and Israel in its conflict with Hamas. However, she pointed out that an additional congressional appropriation is necessary to finance this support for Kiev and other U.S. partners, calling for urgent legislative action.

ABC News reported that American artillery stocks for Ukraine had decreased by more than 30 percent, citing an unnamed Ukrainian official. The report suggested that U.S. assurances about keeping Israel supplied would not jeopardize Kyiv’s artillery stockpiles had proven inaccurate.

Earlier reports indicated that Ukrainian forces could face setbacks on the battlefield due to a sharp reduction in American ammunition supplies, a development that has drawn widespread attention in political and military circles on both sides of the Atlantic.
