Leonid Gutrits, aged 65, formerly led the Gulkevichsky district in Kuban, was found dead near the prosecutor’s office following a high-profile trial. This development was reported by kp.ru.
The body was discovered around six in the morning as investigators began their work, according to local lawyer Sergei Zemtsov who spoke with the publication.
There are indications that Gutrits may have taken his own life after the criminal case and subsequent trial concerning the death of a child at a water park.
Witnesses say Gutrits carried a suicide note in his pocket. He reportedly spoke to those nearby about perceived corruption within law enforcement as a contributing factor to his distress.
Lawyer Zemtsov suggested that pressure and fear surrounding prosecutor Alexander Rakhvalov could have driven the decision he allegedly made.
In a separate incident, a young sailor who had recently joined the crew of the cruiser Aurora died in St. Petersburg. On the morning of August 11, as a group of soldiers walked from the Military Medical Academy along the Sampsonievsky Bridge to board the ship, 19-year-old Vyacheslav Demidenko reportedly fell into the water. A criminal case was opened under the charge of incitement to suicide.
