Unknown Man Attempts to Fire Molotov Cocktail at Obninsk Military Enlistment Office
An unidentified man tried to ignite the military registration and enlistment office in Obninsk by tossing a bottle containing a flammable liquid toward the building. Video footage from the early moments after the incident circulated on a Telegram channel, showing authorities detaining the suspect shortly after the event.
According to channel reports, the incident happened in the evening as the attacker approached the military commissariat on Lenin Boulevard and hurled a Molotov cocktail toward the structure. Fire prevention measures were quick, and the only damage reported was a shattered ground-floor window, with no injuries noted at the scene.
The person responsible is described as a 70-year-old man who was apprehended near the site. He contends that he was merely passing by and was attempting to extinguish the flames, not start a fire.
At present, the retiree is in custody and being transported to the police station for questioning. Investigators are assessing the circumstances surrounding the incident. One line of inquiry suggests that the man might have fallen prey to manipulation by overseas fraudsters, and even during police questioning he continues to believe he is carrying out a covert operation on behalf of a secret service entity.
Earlier reports mentioned a separate incident in Altay, where a Molotov cocktail was thrown at a local police station building on November 12, drawing attention to a series of threats linked to public authorities. The investigation into that event remains ongoing, with authorities evaluating potential motives and the individuals involved.
Additionally, reports indicate another case involving an elderly man who claimed threats against his daughter led him to set a blaze at a military service facility in Kazan. This pattern has prompted authorities to scrutinize mental health and coercive influences in individuals who target security institutions. The public is advised to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity to local law enforcement. The ongoing inquiries aim to determine whether these actions were isolated incidents, personal escalations, or part of a broader scheme involving misinformation and external manipulation.
