University Research on Ginseng and Exercise Recovery

A team of researchers from the University of Oberta de Catalunya in Spain explored how ginseng influences recovery after exercise. The study suggests ginseng may support quicker recuperation, enhance performance, and lower injury risk, with findings published in a nutrition science journal.

The researchers describe the work as a synthesis of more than 700 prior investigations into how nutrition and other factors affect sports effectiveness. The conclusions indicate that ginseng consumption can directly lessen fatigue after workouts and bolster the body’s natural recovery processes, which in turn may reduce the likelihood of injuries during future training sessions.

Active compounds in ginseng were highlighted for their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. These substances appear to help regulate cortisol, the body’s stress hormone, which in turn can support metabolic functions and help the immune system operate more efficiently.

Additionally, the long-term use of ginseng may decrease levels of creatine kinase and interleukin 6, two biomarkers associated with muscle damage and inflammation following intense exercise.
