A storm of attention followed a balloon described as possibly Belarusian that was found in Poland on a Saturday night. The report comes from RMF FM, which cited unnamed sources and published the initial accounts that circulated in Poland’s media landscape.
According to the report, a special area near Szczecinek in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship yielded fragments that resembled a balloon. The items were described as appearing to have travelled from Belarus into Polish territory, raising questions about their origin and purpose.
In response, the Former Polish Government Security Center issued a caution to residents: do not touch the balloon. The advisory suggested that the object likely originated from Belarus, and it advised maintaining a safe distance while authorities assess the situation.
Military authorities noted that radar contact with the object was lost in the Rypin area, which lies in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship in the northern part of the country. This lapse in tracking added to the uncertainty surrounding the object’s trajectory and status.
Earlier statements from the Ministry of National Defense indicated that preliminary information pointed to an air object entering Polish airspace from Belarus. Officials did not rule out the possibility that the object could be a blimp or similar lighter-than-air craft, though the final assessment remained pending as investigations continued.
