This income statement is an annual requirement in Spain for reporting taxpayers’ earnings and expenses during the fiscal year to the Tax Office and for determining the tax due. Keeping tax obligations current helps avoid penalties or fines and keeps the process smooth.
In Spain, the income statement is filed between April and June of the year after the reference year. In other words, the income statement prepared in 2023 reflects the income and expenses recorded by taxpayers in the previous year, 2022.
2023 income statement draft
To simplify submitting all required documents, the Tax Office provides taxpayers with a draft income statement. The draft includes Personal Income Tax (IRPF) income and withholdings, deductions, and other tax data collected by the Treasury. It is a proposed return that consolidates the taxpayer’s tax information.
The taxpayer can review and modify the draft if needed before final submission. If the draft is accurate, the taxpayer can confirm it and submit it directly online, avoiding the need to file a completely new income statement.
In this way, the Treasury confirms that the taxpayer agrees with the income statement, and no further action is required. The data is automatically processed based on the information held by the Tax Office.
If the draft is not approved because the taxpayer sees inaccuracies, incompleteness, or believes a different option is more advantageous, the declaration must be submitted by alternative means within the established window.
Therefore, it is important to note that the draft is not mandatory, and the taxpayer always retains the option to file a full, alternative return if requested. Careful review of the draft before approval is essential to ensure that all information is correct.

When can you view the 2023 draft income statement?
The revenue calendar for 2023 sets the following: taxpayers can request the draft income statement online starting April 11. The deadline for submitting the income statement is June 30, 2023, in any case.
Additional dates depend on actions chosen within the 2023 calendar created by the Income Tax Authority. If a taxpayer prefers the Treasury to handle the income statement over the phone, an appointment should be booked from May 3 to June 29. In this scenario, the period to file begins on May 5 and ends on June 30.
Do retirees have to submit their Income Statement?
If a taxpayer wants the Tax Office to file the income statement in person rather than by phone, the timeline shifts. The process runs throughout June, from the 1st to the 30th, with eligibility for in-person filing available from May 25 to June 29, 2023.
