The annual income statement is a formal process in Spain used to report a taxpayer’s income and expenses for the fiscal year to the Tax Office. It determines the amount of tax owed and helps keep obligations current, preventing penalties or fines.
In Spain, the income statement is filed between April and June of the year following the year to which the statement refers. In other words, the 2023 income statement covers the income and expenses recorded by taxpayers during 2022.
2023 income statement draft
To ease the submission of all required documents, the Tax Office provides a draft income statement. The draft includes the Personal Income Tax (IRPF) income and withholdings, tax deductions, and other data collected by the Treasury that pertain to the taxpayer. It serves as a preliminary return containing tax information.
Treasury warns on Kira’s first: Don’t make these mistakes
The taxpayer may review and modify the draft if necessary before proceeding. If the draft is accurate, the taxpayer can confirm it and submit it directly online, avoiding the need to prepare a complete income statement from scratch.
In this way, the Treasury verifies that the taxpayer agrees with the income statement and, once confirmed, it is automatically processed using the data already present in the Tax Office records.
If the draft income statement is not approved because the taxpayer believes it is inaccurate, incomplete, or presents a more favorable outcome through a different method, the declaration must be submitted by alternative means within the established deadline.

It is important to note that the draft is not mandatory, and the taxpayer always retains the option to file a full alternative return if needed. Careful review of the draft before approval ensures that all data is correct and complete.

When can you see the 2023 lease draft?
According to the 2023 revenue campaign calendar, the taxpayer can request the draft income statement online starting April 11. The deadline for submitting the income statement is June 30, 2023, in any case.
Additionally, other dates are set by actions within the calendar established by the Income Tax Authority for 2023. If the taxpayer asks the Treasury to arrange the income statement over the phone, an appointment is needed between May 3 and June 29. In that scenario, the submission period begins May 5 and ends June 30.
Do retirees have to submit their Income Statement?
If the taxpayer prefers the Tax Office to file the income statement in person rather than by phone, the schedule shifts: June 1 through June 30 is the window, with appointments possible from May 25 to June 29, 2023.
For retirees or individuals who rely on in-person processing, the end of June is the standard window for submission, but specific dates may vary based on the chosen method and calendar outlined by the Tax Authority.
