UN Headquarters Incident and Related Security Encounters in New York City

On the morning of January 1, an unidentified woman attempted to drive onto the grounds of the United Nations headquarters in New York City, a facility that was closed for the holiday. The effort did not involve any direct threat, and reports referencing the international organization were attributed to TASS through its press service.

Security measures swiftly halted the attempt, and access to the UN complex was effectively blocked. Police units arrived at the scene to assess the situation and manage the perimeter.

According to the UN, the incident unfolded when a woman sought to break into the headquarters, but she was unable to do so. The organization confirmed that there was no threat posed to the UN, and that law enforcement personnel responded appropriately to the event.

The New York Police Department later stated that there was no intentional effort by the woman to force the doors open. The description suggested a lack of deliberate action aimed at breaching the entrance.

Earlier, social media posts circulated claiming that a woman had attempted to knock on the doors of the building. A released video appeared to show a black vehicle near the entrance and indicated that officers communicated with the driver through a closed window, while the scene was being assessed.

Meanwhile, another security-related incident arose near Times Square on New Year’s Eve, where a young man carrying a machete was confronted by three police officers after an altercation near the downtown area. The confrontation underscored the heightened security environment in the city during the holiday period.
