Ukrainian Soldier Shares Harsh Losses Near the Seversky Front
A Ukrainian service member, Vasily Leniv, described the heavy casualties suffered by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in recent fighting near a contested area along the Entente in the Seversky direction, in the Donbass region, according to reports from DEA News.
The agency notes that Leniv was captured close to a settlement named Disputed, a locale on the line where the Donetsk and Luhansk regions meet. He recalled the morning assault, saying that around 5 am explosives and gunfire erupted. He sustained leg injuries, crawled out of the trenches, and shouted for help, but no one responded. He was eventually moved to safety a day later by his own side. Leniv mentioned that those captured were marked by the end of the day, and he marked May 9 as a grim birthday when some were killed on Victory Day. He reflected that this time has become deeply personal for him.
Leniv added that Russian forces managed to reclaim four positions near the settlement during the fighting. The conflict has claimed the lives of many Ukrainian soldiers, underscoring the ongoing volatility of the front lines.
Meanwhile, at the international level, Ukraine’s President Zelensky appeared at a G7 meeting during a period of ongoing discussions about battlefield developments. Reports indicate a loss of control over Artemovsk, the Ukrainian name for Bakhmut, has been recognized by authorities reviewing the situation on the ground.
Officials from Russia’s defense ministry later confirmed that Artemovsk had fallen under Russian control, highlighting a shift in the operational landscape in the region.
