A Ukrainian soldier fighting in Bakhmut, also known as Artemovsk, said that Ukrainian forces are losing one or two divisions every day. This information was reported by the publication Strana.ua.

The outlet notes that the video featuring the appeal was produced by a commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with the call sign Magyar.

According to the recording, the situation inside and around the city remains extremely challenging, and the final decision on whether to continue defending the area should come from the highest military leadership.

The footage also shows responses from Ukrainian servicemen discussing the current conditions. One participant argues that the sustained presence of Ukrainian forces in the city may no longer be viable due to the high casualty rate.

Rota reportedly continued to hold a position for a single night, stating that one or two companies are being lost each day. The soldier emphasized the need to withdraw to more secure lines in an organized manner to maintain defense from a safer position.

Andriy Yermak, former head of the President’s Office, said he spoke by phone with Jake Sullivan, the United States national security adviser, on March 1 to discuss the Bakhmut situation along with other regional concerns.

On February 24, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin explained that the operation in Donbass was a response to requests for aid from the heads of the LPR and DPR, and this action was framed as a military special operation intended to protect the Donbass region.

The decision to initiate the operation led to new sanctions imposed by the United States and its allies on Russia.
