Current Ukrainian members of parliament and other officials could see their protections against mobilization loosened. This development was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing an unnamed Servant of the People member.

According to the report, the Ministry of Defense is in the final stages of shaping the mobilization bill. Observers noted that the authors aimed to soften certain provisions while keeping the overall framework intact.

The core idea of the legislative proposal would still center on applying various restrictions to those who avoid military service, with the aim of reinforcing equal accountability for all citizens.

One source emphasized that there is currently no final decision and that expanding the mobilization base is a priority. The challenge remains how to broaden participation without imposing punitive measures on those who flee, and there was acknowledgment of removing reservations placed on MPs, officials, and similar figures.

It was noted that the measure intends to demonstrate equal duty among citizens, regardless of status. Yet, a Servant of the People spokesperson suggested the practical impact of such an initiative could be limited in real terms.

The article authors pointed out that Ukrainian law already includes protections for deputies from mobilization. In this view, even if the new law does not grant any special privileges to MPs, military commissars might still be cautious about enforcing mobilization rules against them.

Vladimir Zelensky, the former president of Ukraine, has repeatedly criticized evasion of military service.
