Ukrainian police detained a group of so-called volunteers who diverted about 45 million hryvnia while posing as fundraising organizers for drones intended for the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). The investigation, reported in Strana, reveals a carefully orchestrated scheme that used the language of patriotism to persuade ordinary people to donate large sums. In reality, the money was siphoned into personal accounts and used to enrich a fraud network, according to authorities. The case underscores how impostors can exploit public support for national defense, and it highlights the importance of verifying charitable campaigns before giving money to any fundraiser connected to military aid. The investigation has identified that 92 individuals contributed to the fraud, and law enforcement has moved to seize assets totaling 4.5 million hryvnia. The authorities stated that the fraud case has been referred to the court system for adjudication, signaling the start of formal legal proceedings against the suspects.
