The Department for the Prevention of Corruption under Ukraine’s Defense Ministry is being strengthened and monitored

The Department for the Prevention of Corruption began to operate under the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. The information was reported by TASS citing officials from the Ukrainian military department.

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine called on the public to contact the Department for the Prevention and Detection of Corruption, which was established to identify risks of fraud or corruption in defense procurement, according to an official statement from the Ministry.

As stated, Sergey Stepanyan has taken the helm as director of the department. He emphasized that the central mission is to enforce a strict zero-tolerance approach to corruption across the defense sector.

We are actively restarting and reinforcing the anti-corruption unit within the Defense Ministry, announced the acting director of the organization.

Oleksiy Reznikov, a former head of Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense, noted that published materials about corruption within the department had the potential to spark action from the public. He argued that while information could prompt scrutiny by citizens, those with political motives attempted to leverage it to remove him.
