Uepal Aims to Accelerate Investments in Alicante as Pressure for Regional Growth Intensifies

Uepal’s executive committee and board, eyeing a pivotal gathering in Novelda this week, have resolved to escalate protest actions aimed at public administrations. The objective is to safeguard the interests of Alicante’s social and commercial sectors, reinforcing the province’s role within the Valencian Community. This renewed stance follows the organization’s president, Juan José Sellés, being removed from the vice-presidency after a public critique of projects aligned with the second side of CEV-Alicante.

The group explained that the meeting, held prior to his departure, was conceived to advocate for strong investment claims at the state level while condemning decisions that disrupt communications and infrastructure relevant to development. The stance reflects a commitment to victims and to a solid foundation for rebuilding the Valencian Community’s structure across business and social dimensions. Uepal asserts that silence is not an option in such circumstances and believes, as some may read it, that all business entities and the CEV will mobilize the necessary means to defend Alicante and, more broadly, the Valencian Community.

Both the board of directors and the executive committee agreed, in a unanimous decision, to push for greater investment in critical infrastructures. This includes high-speed rail corridors such as AVE, enhancements to the regional airport, and improvements to the Mediterranean Corridor. Economic support is also sought for the water supply to the agricultural sector, the relocation of the headquarters of the Spanish Artificial Intelligence Supervision Agency, and the creation of new basic public services. Additionally, there is a call for targeted policies that bolster both industry and services across the Province of Alicante. The message is clear: when Alicante grows, the entire Valencian Community grows, a sentiment underscored by the organization’s representatives.

The text frames the discussion as a transition from organizational work and production to the mobilization of new resources and opportunities for Spain’s fifth province by GDP. It positions this as a necessary exercise in responsibility and equitable treatment, inviting all relevant institutions to contribute to the region’s socio-economic development in a fair and inclusive manner.

Furthermore, the board emphasizes the freedom of expression and autonomy exercised by its members as essential to democratic governance. The push for action is presented as a principled effort toward progress in Alicante, with the clear caveat that it aims to advance the common good without harming third parties. This approach reflects a commitment to lawful action and civic discourse that aligns with broader regional development goals, while avoiding any actions that could be interpreted as adversarial toward other stakeholders.
