The ruling comes after investigators linked the group’s activities to a number of fatalities resulting from consumption of the counterfeit beverage. Judgment materials show that the defendant, Malik Mamedov, aged 39, had been distributing surrogate liquor with the intent to hand it over to accomplices for distribution in Tyumen retail outlets. The period under review includes a January 3, 2023 incident, when the group sold an unlicensed product containing methyl alcohol to local stores located on Stavropolskaya and Rizhskaya streets. This substance is known to be hazardous to life and health when consumed and lacked any safety certification or compliance with applicable standards.
In total, nine individuals died after consuming the tainted alcohol. The court established that Mamedov acted as part of a group that stored and transported products not meeting safety and health standards, with intent to market them. The actions were found to have negligently caused the death of two or more people, violating part 3 of article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The verdict reflected a determination that the accused engaged in a dangerous chain of supply linked to retail outlets within the city.
The sentence handed down assigns seven years of imprisonment to be served in a special regime correctional colony. In addition, the court ordered a monetary award of 500 thousand rubles as moral compensation to the victims and their families, recognizing the harm caused by the illicit activity.
