In Alicante, a man accused of smashing a crystal glass into a dancer’s head during a night at a local disco bar faced the court this Thursday in the Provincial Court. He admitted guilt at the hearing held in Chapter Ten and accepted a sentence proposal that would place him under two years of imprisonment after an agreement with his attorney. Following the pact, prosecutors requested detention and a prison term, but also consented to suspend the execution of the sentence provided certain conditions were met.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office initially asked for a five-year prison term on charges of injury. After negotiations with the defendant’s defense, the period was reduced to two years, and there was no objection to suspending the imprisonment execution. The settlement also required the defendant to compensate just over 5,000 euros for the injuries caused by the blow to the victim, who bears scars on the head from the impact and the rupture of a blood vessel.
aggression after dance
According to the accusation described during investigations, the events were acknowledged by the accused in the courtroom and occurred on January 16, 2022, in a disco-bar located in Alicante’s Pla district. When the accused saw his girlfriend dancing with another man, he reacted by attacking her at the end of the dance and struck the victim with the crystal glass across the head without uttering a word.
The injured party endured facial pain and swelling, receiving ten days of medical treatment. Despite the visible scar left by the assault, the compensation sought by the prosecutor’s office remained focused on covering all damages. The defendant had previously paid 500 euros in damages and pledged to satisfy the full amount, exceeding 5,000 euros, within a six-month period.
