A service member who assaulted a colleague with a mobile phone in Tomsk has received a prison sentence, according to reports from the 2nd Eastern Regional Military Court.

On February 1 of this year, authorities determined that a soldier performing mandatory military service demanded the colleague in the barracks of their unit surrender his phone for personal gain. In the absence of compliance, the assailant threatened violence and then produced a knife, striking the victim in the face. After the threat and aggression, the victim yielded to the attacker’s demands.

The Tomsk Garrison Military Court found the attacker guilty and sentenced him to two years in prison to be served in a general regime correctional colony.

Earlier, a soldier and his accomplice in Siberia were convicted for stealing an iPhone 15. One was sentenced to four years in prison to be served in a general regime colony, while the other received four years and seven months in a penal regime colony.

In another case, a former soldier from Chelyabinsk returned home carrying a hand grenade and was subsequently imprisoned.
