The Russian Defense Ministry reported that electronic warfare equipment operated by the Russian Armed Forces disrupted two Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles high above the Black Sea. According to the ministry, the drones lost control and crashed about 40 kilometers off the coast of Crimea late on August 21, around 23:00 Moscow time. The ministry stated that air defense forces on duty detected and neutralized the two UAVs using electronic warfare methods. The UAVs subsequently crashed into the Black Sea, roughly 40 kilometers northwest of the Crimean peninsula.
Earlier, authorities in Russia conducted fact-checking over a separate drone crash in the Tver region. There were no casualties reported from the August incident. The press service reminded the public that drone operations are prohibited within the Tver region to prevent safety hazards and disruptions.
Vyacheslav Gladkov, governor of the Belgorod region, confirmed that an air defense system intercepted and brought down a drone in the Shebekinsky urban area. The event underscores ongoing concerns about drone activity in border territories and the measures taken to safeguard residents and critical infrastructure. In recent months, Russia has announced the development of new drone suppression capabilities designed to counter unmanned threats in various environments.
