A fatality occurred in a residential area in La Barganiza, Siero, Asturias, when a fire broke out in a home. One person died and two women were evacuated to Asturias Central University Hospital (HUCA) due to smoke inhalation. A man who was not taken to the hospital received on-site treatment after the incident.
The Emergency Coordination Center logged the call at 06:57, reporting a fire with unknown contents burning. Responders moved quickly, with the Central District Chief Inspector and Fire Chief leading a team of nine firefighters from the Principality of Asturias Emergency Service (SEPA), along with units from La Morgal and San Martín del Rey Aurelio parks, as well as a main fire vehicle and two light urban fire trucks. The Asturias Fire Chief also proceeded to the scene.
Following the initial assessment, responders confirmed that the fire was contained to a single room and that the building was filled with heavy smoke. Crews entered the room, located a person who had already been removed, and began extinguishing the flames. Medical teams arrived to treat the injured, but life could not be saved for the deceased individual on the scene.
Firefighters reported that the fire was brought under control at 07:39. After cooling surfaces, ventilating the area, and removing debris, the expedition to the scene concluded when units returned to base at 09:59.
In addition to the SEPA command room, responders coordinated with the 112 service, including teams from Lugones and Noreña. The medical teams contacted SAMU, which mobilized Langreo’s Mobile ICU, as well as essential life support ambulances from Nava and Llanera, and a Transinsa ambulance.
