Two patrols from the National Police helped an 11-month-old baby who was drowning while in her mother’s arms, applying resuscitation techniques to restore consciousness. The other team notified hospital staff about the arrival of a minor in distress.
The events occurred this Sunday, according to a statement from the Valencia Community Police Department. The incident happened around 20:00 during the October 9 festival on Embroidery Street in Valencia.
The two patrols arrived at a scene where crowds surged up to Puerta de la Mardue due to the huge influx for the parade on October 9.
Agents encountered a mother in an extremely distressed state who said, “My son is dying, he can’t breathe, he’s not moving.” Responding quickly, the officers loaded the baby, the mother, and two friends into the police vehicle to expedite transport to the hospital.
While both patrols coordinated their efforts, one team attended to the minor and the relatives, and the other informed the hospital’s emergency department that the child arrived with potential cardio-respiratory arrest.
During the ride, a patrol officer seated as a co-pilot held the baby with the head supported in a prone position, placing fingers into the mouth to check for any obstruction while ensuring the airway remained clear.
Meanwhile, the other responder delivered rhythmic taps to the child’s shoulder blades as needed. The baby began to regain consciousness as the intervention continued.
En route, near Tetuan Square, the officers located an ambulance and requested medical personnel to assist the child upon arrival. The baby’s condition stabilized, and health authorities described the prognosis as cautious but favorable. [Source: Valencia Community Police Department]
