National Police agents arrested two men in the Elche region for attempting to steal from a telephone exchange station. The suspects, aged 22 and 52, are both Spanish nationals. The incident unfolded in a county area, where officers quickly moved to intervene as part of ongoing efforts to safeguard rural communities and enhance security in the district.
Thanks to reinforced patrols in rural zones, units operating to protect public safety noticed an individual displaying a watchful, alert posture around a telecommunications facility. The team decided to approach quietly, avoiding any actions that might tip off others and escalate the situation.
Upon reaching the suspect’s vicinity, the officers observed that the enclosure fence near the station was damaged, suggesting forced entry. Inside the premises, another person appeared to be manipulating equipment, drawing the officers’ attention to possible preparatory actions for a theft.

After disrupting the outside contact with others inside, the officers moved decisively to enter the station. It was at that moment that a partner inside the facility was found cutting the terminals of several batteries belonging to the telecommunications facility owner. The two individuals were quickly identified as the alleged perpetrators of the crime and were subsequently placed under arrest on charges of forced theft of goods.
Following the initial action, the responding officers identified the vehicle used by the detainees and confirmed that the suspects had earlier loaded multiple batteries into the trunk of the car, preparing for transport and removal from the scene.
With the aid of the property owner, police compiled a report to determine the approximate value of the affected items. The stolen batteries were valued at around 5,000 euros, and the damage caused by tampering with the station’s hardware amounted to approximately 2,500 euros. These figures helped establish the scale of the incident and the monetary impact on the telecommunications facility.
The two individuals were subsequently taken into custody and transported to the courthouse in Elche, where they were to be processed under the jurisdiction of the local Guard Functions Court. The case underscores the commitment of law enforcement to rural stability and the swift response to property crimes affecting critical infrastructure.
