A grave tragedy struck last night in Arrojas, a small village in the parish of San Juan de Piñera, within the council of Cudillero in Asturias. A 10-year-old boy died after a catastrophic tractor accident. His father, around fifty years old, died shortly afterward in hospital from injuries sustained in the crash. Emergency services report that the father’s tractor, owned by a local resident, rolled downhill along a very steep slope about 100 meters from their home. Inside were the father and son.

A rapid sequence of events left little time to respond. The father was thrown from the vehicle, and the son could not jump clear in time to avoid the impact that followed. The tractor slammed into a horreo, a traditional granary, causing the structure to collapse onto the vehicle. The boy appeared to have died almost instantly, while the Guardia Civil continues to investigate the precise cause of the downhill slide. The father, who could not recover from his injuries, was transported to HUCA, where medical staff attempted to save him.

The double fatality has left the entire council of Cudillero, and especially Arrojas, in shock. The father, a longtime farmer with extensive experience driving tractors, was highly regarded in the village. Locals describe him as a very responsible person who never engaged in reckless behavior, making the tragedy all the more hard to bear.

The 10-year-old boy was well known across the area, with a sister, and he loved the countryside. It was common to see him in the village with his father, always close to nature. Neighbors recall that he was a bright, lively child who brought joy to everyone who met him. The local community, still reeling from the loss, reports that the teenager was deeply connected to farming and outdoor life.

The 112 SEPA center notified the Guardia Civil and the Urgent Medical Assistance Service, which activated two mobile ICUs and the zone’s doctor and basic life support ambulance. The Psychological Support Team, ERIE, of the Red Cross, was also deployed to help the community cope with the shock.
