Two male security guards, aged 26 and 36, were fatally wounded during a night shift at a Kiev company when fragments from Russian shelling struck their area. The incident occurred early this morning, as confirmed by the city’s Military Administration, which reported damage in multiple districts and injuries among civilians from falling debris.
According to local authorities, the capital faced its largest assault since last spring. The Ukrainian Air Force intercepted more than twenty enemy shells over Kiev, and at least three people sustained injuries due to falling debris. The strikes caused visible damage across several neighborhoods as emergency crews responded to the scene.
Kherson chief of defense Sergí Popko described the attack as a large, coordinated strike that combined drones with missiles. The first explosions were heard shortly after 5 a.m. local time, with additional blasts rippling through central Kiev as responders worked to assess the aftermath.
Officials say the assault unfolded in two phases during the night. The initial wave involved Iranian-designed Shahed drones launched in groups from multiple directions, followed by missiles fired from Tu-95 strategic bombers. The sequence aimed to overwhelm air defenses and maximize disruption in densely populated districts.
In the Shevchenkivskyi and Darnytskyi districts, where the two guards lost their lives, numerous buildings sustained damage from shrapnel and fires broke out in several affected areas. Rescue teams and utility crews were deployed to assess structural integrity, extinguish fires, and secure affected blocks as the city works to restore normalcy after the night’s events.
