Two fishermen vanished while traveling on the Talovka River in Kamchatka’s Penzhinsky district. The incident is being investigated by the regional ministry of emergency services, with confirmation from the area’s emergency minister that the search is ongoing and the missing duo remain unaccounted for. Their phones are unanswered, and authorities have not been able to establish their location.
Authorities indicate the missing men may have chosen to walk toward a settlement after their self-propelled barge ran out of food. Current weather conditions, particularly strong winds, are hindering waterborne and air rescue operations, but dedicated rescue teams continue to monitor the area and remain on standby for any change in the weather that would allow swift action.
The ministry of emergencies reports that on June 18 the two fishermen embarked on a self-propelled barge journey from the village of Talovka toward Manila in the Penzhinsky district. They did not arrive at the expected destination or return to the village at the planned time. Subsequent discovery revealed the barge with a damaged engine located 150 kilometers from Talovka. The vessel was found moored to a tree, and the dog of one of the men was still aboard.
