Banco Santander announced on Monday the establishment of two technology hubs in Malaga, Spain, and Warsaw, Poland, to provide technical support and services across various group business areas. The hubs are expected to employ around 1,400 professionals, with roughly 700 in each location, bringing strong STEM talent into the bank’s digital and commercial transformation. The entity indicated that hiring could be completed within about three years.
In Malaga, a team of 45 people already works at the headquarters of the Alameda Principal site. Sources suggest the bank may eventually secure its own dedicated space for the center as it grows.
BeTech with Santander is a new recruitment initiative launched this December under which the bank operates the site betechwithsantander.com to centralize technology job openings, many of which target roles at the two new tech hubs. Currently, the group lists around 750 technology positions open.
The bank noted that the creation of these centers would help strengthen the alignment between Santander markets and a unified European operating model.
Malaga and Warsaw are highlighted as two European cities that are actively integrating technology firms into their industrial fabric while offering a high quality of life. Beyond these centers, the group already maintains similar hubs in Bilbao and Valencia (serving Openbank), Valladolid (Santander Consumer Finance), Solares, Cantabria, and central services in other operating regions where the group operates.
Cloud, Big Data, AI or cybersecurity profiles
Both centers in Malaga and Poland are already functioning and have begun integrating a range of technology profiles to support the bank’s business functions. Santander Corporate and Investment Banking emphasizes that technology is a strategic lever, and the ability to create top products and services for customers increasingly depends on it.
Positions in these centers cover areas such as platforms and APIs, cloud computing, Big Data, networking, DevSecOps, artificial intelligence, software development, enterprise architecture, and cybersecurity.
Today, technology is a strategic driver for business, especially in banking, where digitization of products and services is a major ongoing effort. The leadership notes the opportunity to redefine how technology supports job growth and organizational transformation, pointing to the evolving role of tech teams in delivering customer value.
Dedicated recruitment of IT profiles
Santander explains that rising demand for tech profiles in the financial sector supports the Be Tech with Santander recruitment plan, aiming to add roughly 1,000 IT professionals in Spain and 3,000 worldwide as part of a broader move to become a leading open platform for financial services.
The Malaga and Warsaw facilities are described as elements of one of the industry’s largest transformation efforts, an ongoing, technology-driven initiative that emphasizes openness, diversity, and continuous evolution. The head of Global Human Resources notes the intention to attract top technologists and to help them grow and develop within the organization.
Historically, Santander allocated significant resources to digital transformation, including a planned 20 billion euros investment over four years for technology and digital initiatives. The bank’s cloud migration initiatives have accelerated, with substantial portions of infrastructure moving to cloud-based solutions.
Recently, Santander introduced Gravity, an internally developed software that digitizes the core banking system. Digital channels now serve more than 50 million customers, and online and mobile channels account for a majority of the bank’s sales.
