Two Crews Evacuated From Lodairo After Onboard Incident

Two crew members were safely evacuated from a large Spanish trawler after an on board incident forced the ship to seek urgent help in the North Atlantic. The vessel, Lodairo, Spain’s flagship cod fishing trawler, was operating about 160 miles northwest of Scotland when a distress signal triggered the Maritime emergency services to respond. The Radio Medical Center immediately ordered the extraction of two conscious sailors who had sustained serious injuries. The ship’s owner, Áncora, later confirmed that both men were stable and receiving care in the intensive care unit at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow. Families stood by the sailors, supported by Iván López Van der Veen, a Vigo based shipowner who has followed the case closely. An official inquiry is underway with the Ciaim, the Marine Accidents and Incidents Investigation Commission, reviewing why there was only a single crew member on deck when the incident occurred. The on call expert overseeing the case is the same authority as the one that handled the Villa de Pitanxo wreck investigation, ensuring continuity in oversight and accountability.
