Two Tragic Choking Incidents Reported on the Same Day in the Valencia Region

Two people died yesterday following reports of potential choking events. The first victim was a 63-year-old man who passed away after a piece of pastry became lodged in his throat in a bar in the Cristo de Aldaia neighborhood. The second tragedy involved a seventeen‑month‑old girl who, despite efforts to resuscitate her at the Puig health center, succumbed to respiratory failure. According to the Valencian emergency service CICU, there is not yet confirmation that the second case was caused by choking, as the child may have had an underlying medical condition.

In the first case, investigators say, the incident occurred at a bar in Aldaia where police officers attempted resuscitation while medical responders were en route. When the SAMU ambulance arrived after receiving a call about a choking situation, doctors were unable to save the man, who was 63 years old, despite their best efforts.

Hours later, at around 15:00, a second emergency call was made for a young child experiencing breathing trouble. The parents had brought the girl to the Puig health center when she could not breathe properly. Medical staff spent nearly two hours stabilizing her, but she did not survive. The Massamagrell Court of Instruction Number Two is investigating the events; preliminary information suggests the child had a prior medical condition. The child’s body was transported to the Valencia Institute of Legal Medicine for autopsy, where the final findings are expected to clarify the underlying causes.
