In a grave incident that unfolded on a rural farm in Los Minerales, within the municipality of El Salto in central Mexico, at least twelve people were killed. Among the casualties were four police officers, underscoring the fatal toll of the armed confrontation that erupted on Thursday.
Officials reported that emergency services received a 911 call describing a truck filled with heavily armed individuals arriving at the scene. The call allegedly noted two people who were blindfolded and handcuffed, brought to a private residence. El Salto Police Commissioner Adán Domínguez described the scene to Milenio, noting that armed assailants began firing long-range weapons as authorities approached. He stated that responding officers repelled the assault and, with substantial support from the police station, along with the National Police, the National Guard, and the Metropolitan Police, were able to restore order at the location.
In the exchange of gunfire that followed, four police officers were fatally struck while others sustained injuries. Eight assailants were killed in the encounters, and three suspects were subsequently detained by security forces. Commissioner Domínguez added that at least three individuals had been arrested and two others were in custody, receiving medical attention as needed from health services. The investigation into the incident continues as authorities seek to determine the motives and exact sequence of events surrounding the attack.
