A Spanish startup, Tribal Data, has introduced a climate education mobile app designed to help users gauge their environmental footprint and become more aware of individual duties toward the planet.
The app calculates a CO2 footprint in tons per year using publicly available data supplemented by user information. Details such as country of residence, home size, transportation methods, dietary and recycling habits, and other lifestyle factors feed the calculator according to the company statement.
Based on these inputs, the company estimates that an average Spaniard could offset about 7.5 tons of CO2 per year by planting roughly 610 trees. The model connects personal action to measurable results and offers a clear path to offset emissions as part of its educational framework.
Neutralize footprint through tree planting
Beyond measurement, the app provides practical tips to reduce emissions and partners with an afforestation organization to offer tree-planting options that neutralize environmental impact.
Currently, reforestation efforts are concentrated in Madagascar, with plans for Europe and potential collaborations in other sustainable projects such as converting CO2 into biochar or supporting wind energy initiatives.
The aim is to fight climate change
The company emphasizes empowering individuals to contribute to sustainable development by lowering greenhouse gas emissions, highlighting that emissions are a primary driver of climate change.
With rising temperatures, forest fires, and droughts becoming more evident in Europe, the project argues that emission reductions are essential. It calls for shared commitment from governments, companies, and citizens alike to slow climate trends.
Launched as a climate coaching app, the platform invites users to learn about their personal carbon footprint and take actionable steps toward a lower footprint.
The Tribal Data community, already home to more than 12,000 users, has planted over 86,000 trees, achieving an absorption capacity of more than 1,000 tonnes of CO2 annually.
Recently, the startup launched a crowdfunding tour via a platform that enables small investors to join and helps the company grow in Spain while expanding its tools and services to other countries.
