Two Russians were detained by Moscow Meshchansky Court on charges related to treason, according to the court’s press service cited by RIA Novosti. The court identified the defendants as Egorova and Korotich, who are involved in cases under Article 275 of the Criminal Code, which covers treason. The court noted that it granted a petition to place VV Egorova on probation. Korotich faces a similar arrest under the treason article. Details about the individuals who were detained, the case materials, and the identities of other defendants were not disclosed at this time.

Earlier, the Sverdlovsk Regional Court in Yekaterinburg rejected an appeal filed by Ksenia Karelina, a resident of Los Angeles who is currently imprisoned on treason charges. The court’s decision to deny the appeal was reported as part of ongoing legal proceedings involving foreign nationals held in Russia on treason-related accusations. The timing of the arrest and the official recognition by authorities occurred on February 20 of the year in which the events were reported. The Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation stated that since February 2022 a United States citizen with dual citizenship had, of her own accord, been collecting funds for an Ukrainian-oriented organization. These funds were allegedly used to procure tactical medical supplies, equipment, weapons, and ammunition intended for Ukrainian forces.

In related developments, an actor from the Russian television series Capercaillie appeared in absentia and was sentenced to life imprisonment on treason charges, reflecting the seriousness with which treason-related offenses are pursued in the country and the breadth of measures taken against individuals accused of such crimes.
