A passenger train and a locomotive collided on the Vila-seca summit in Tarragona around 10 o’clock Sunday night. The impact occurred near the shooting range area and involved about 100 travelers aboard the passenger service. The collision disrupted rail traffic on both lines, trapping passengers and halting movements along the route.
According to Diari de Tarragona, twenty people sustained injuries of varying severity. Two of the injured, a 19-year-old man and a 75-year-old woman, required evacuation by SEM ambulances to receive necessary medical care.
Civil protection announced on social media that firefighters were heading to the scene to assist with evacuations and stabilize those affected. The incident led to a suspension of circulation on the affected tracks while responders secured the area and managed passenger movement. Officials stated that the Captrain locomotive, with the designation 95172, collided with a Madrid-Barcelona service train (MD 18087) at Vila-Seca, prompting authorities to halt train operations on both lines to prevent further risk and to allow safe rescue operations.
