A 63-year-old fisherman lost his life after a fall from the first pier at the dock, while en route to fishing. He suffered serious injuries when he landed among nearby rocks. Medical teams from the UVI-móvil de Jarrio rushed to the scene and attempted to stabilize him during transport to the Hospital de Coaña.

Emergency services identified the deceased as a 63-year-old man. Rescue crews from the Principality of Asturias Emergency Service (SEPA) responded, with personnel from the Barres park rescue unit and the concejo beaches team assisting at the scene.

Firefighters and paramedics arrived where the fall occurred. After stabilization, the man was placed on a stretcher and moved by boat to the SAPLA vessel, which then ferried him to the pier at the yacht club where the UVI-móvil was waiting. He succumbed while being transferred to the hospital.

The 112 Asturias Emergency Coordination Center received the alert at 11:40 a.m. Initial reports indicated that a person had fallen on the pier and could not reach safety unaided.

SEPA activated firefighters at Barres Park and the Beach Rescue Service, along with Sea Rescue units, and coordinated the flight of the Helimer helicopter.

At 12:29 p.m., rescuers continued the operation with the aid of a rescue boat. Minutes later, the rescue commander confirmed that the patient was already receiving treatment aboard the UVI-móvil, but he died during transfer to the hospital.

The incident was reported to the prosecutor’s office, with involvement from Civil Guard and Local Police for follow-up and investigation.
