A tragic accident at a level crossing near Recimil’s area in Lugo left one person dead and two others seriously injured. The incident occurred when a train collided with a car while crossing the level crossing, according to information from the Galicia Integrated Emergency Care Center.
The Civil Guard confirmed the event happened at 9:55 am at a barrier-free crossing, specifically at kilometer 423 on the Palencia-A Coruña railway line. It involved a convoy that was momentarily dragged for more than two hundred meters as the collision unfolded, with at least three people on board at the time of the incident. The scene drew a rapid response from emergency services and drew the attention of nearby travelers and residents who witnessed the moment the vehicles were entrained by the train.
Authorities identified the deceased as a 21-year-old man from Léon. Two seriously injured individuals were rescued and transported to hospital by emergency medical teams. Medical personnel from the 061 service coordinated the urgent care at the scene and ensured that the wounded received immediate attention. The broader response included the deployment of multiple units to stabilize patients and secure the area around the crossing.
At the scene, operations continued as responders worked to manage the crash site and account for all passengers on both the train and the vehicle. Rail traffic on the A Coruña-Lugo-Monforte corridor was temporarily suspended to allow for investigations and safety checks, with services resuming only after authorities determined it was safe to do so. The interruption affected schedules and required alternate arrangements for travelers in the region as teams conducted their assessment.
Lugo firefighters were present to assist, coordinating with the Civil Guard and local and national police as well as tourism workers who were in the vicinity. The combined effort aimed to preserve public safety while the investigation moved forward and investigators collected evidence from the scene. Local authorities urged residents to avoid the area while the investigation continued and to follow official guidance regarding any service disruptions.
