Tragic House Fire in Limés, Cangas del Narcea Leaves Elderly Woman Dead and Another Injured

An elderly woman, eighty years old, died in a house fire that erupted early this morning in the town of Limés, within the municipality of Cangas del Narcea. Her fifty-nine-year-old daughter was seriously hurt and transported to medical facilities for urgent care. The sisters lived alone in a semi-detached home that sustained heavy damage as flames engulfed both levels of the building.

Investigators report that the victim was found in a room on the first floor and could not escape as the fire intensified. Fire crews arrived, gained entry through a window with the aid of a hooked ladder, and evacuated the interior. Despite swift medical interventions, the on-site team confirmed the death of the elderly resident. Emergency services continued to manage the scene as responders worked to account for all occupants and assess structural stability.

The injured daughter exited the home on her own during the crisis. Early medical assessments indicated burns covering about a quarter of her body. She received initial treatment at Cangués Hospital Carmen and Severo Ochoa, with further evaluations performed to determine prognosis. She was subsequently transferred to the Asturias Central University Hospital in Oviedo for advanced care.

By the time firefighters reached the scene, the fire had taken full hold of the building, and a portion of the roof had collapsed. The two-story residence was largely consumed by flames, while the adjacent semi-detached unit remained untouched. Fire crews from the Principality of Asturias Emergency Services, stationed at Tebongo Park, along with teams from Tineo and the southwest regional command, coordinated the response. Units from nearby towns also mobilized to assist in the operation.

The incident was first reported to the 112 Asturias Emergency Coordination Center at 02:29. Initial assessments indicated a fully involved house with the possibility of other occupants nearby. Subsequent searches confirmed that one person had escaped the property, while authorities continued to check the remaining structures in the area and confirm safety for responders.

SEPA emergency crews at Cangas del Narcea activated the local fire station and the southwest area chief to manage the scene. When they arrived, the fire was described as fully developed with a person believed to still be inside. Rescue teams proceeded to evacuate and contain the blaze. A Tineo Park unit was also mobilized to support the operation. The fire was declared under control at 06:24, and the Tineo Park teams returned to base by 07:52 after ensuring the area was secure.

Throughout the response, two city fire engines, a ladder truck, a main fire truck, and a command vehicle were deployed to the location. The Civil Guard coordinated the later investigation and oversaw the formal process for handling the deceased. The outcome underscores the swift but tragic nature of residential fires and the ongoing efforts of regional emergency services to protect residents and support families in crisis.
