A 54-year-old man died in the town of Fuenlabrada, Madrid, after being poisoned by his 64-year-old wife, who then took her own life. Police sources reported the case on Monday, outlining a tragic sequence that left two lives lost in what authorities are treating as a double tragedy.
Officials from Comunidad de Madrid Emergency 112 indicated that the incident occurred around 13:00, drawing urgent response teams to the scene.
The couple’s son and daughter, who had been present with their parents the previous night, contacted the emergency services to report the events and seek help for a distressed family.
Responders from Summa 112 and the Police, along with the deceased couple and mental health professionals, coordinated a response involving relatives affected by the event and the subsequent emotional crisis they were facing.
Investigators from Murder Group V of the Provincial Brigade of the Madrid Judicial Police took charge of the inquiry. Early findings point to poisoning as the initial cause of death, followed by the woman’s suicide by hanging.
Security guards from Citizen Security arrived at the residence, where two bodies were found in one of the rooms. Members of the Provincial Scientific Police Brigade conducted an on-site survey to gather preliminary evidence as part of the investigation.
With autopsy results still pending, police continue to work to fully clarify the sequence of events and establish a complete picture of what occurred that day.
Meanwhile, the City Council of Fuenlabrada activated its Victim Care Service. Municipal sources indicated that professionals had already spoken with the two children involved to provide support and address their immediate needs in the aftermath of the incident.
