Canelobre Bays (Busot)
Canelobre Caves lie near Alicante, about 24 kilometers away and perched at an altitude of 700 meters on the slopes of Cabeçó D’Or. These vast caverns host some of the highest stalactites and stalagmites in Spain, offering visitors a vivid display of how stone forms evolve over time. Their size and exceptional acoustic and environmental conditions make them frequent venues for musical performances.
To reach them, travel from Alicante or Xixona toward Busot, then follow signs to Canelobre Caves. A nearby parking area with clearly marked spaces sits before a sharp right-hand bend. The route continues through Pla de la Graya.
Guadalest
Guadalest is a mountain municipality inland from Alicante, set in a dramatic valley that exudes a unique charm. Its reservoir, surrounded by striking scenery, offers vistas that captivate visitors. The Albator fortress, known as the castle of San José, rises dramatically from a rocky perch and provides a memorable viewpoint over the landscape.
You can stroll its cobbled streets, explore craft markets and cozy bars, and ascend to viewpoints to admire the sweeping panoramas.

La Encantada Pass (Planes)
Planes offers short, enriching excursions in a single day. The Gallinera Valley, known as the valley of the cherry trees, is a highlight. The itinerary typically begins with the Via Crucis, leading from the town to the Santo Cristo Hermitage, where a gentle walk amid cherry and almond trees unfolds. The route then traverses the Enchanted Valley waterfall and a path that climbs along its boxed bed, before threading through fields on the return. Planes is a town well worth a visit.

Source of the Vinalopó River (Banyeres de Mariola)
This municipality sits at the province’s highest altitude and lies near the Mariola Mountains, an environmental enclave of great significance. The Vinalopó River is formed in this area by several springs that feed the local landscape. A short drive reveals the natural watercourses and the scenic surroundings.
From Banyeres de Mariola, take the CV-795 toward the Translation Center of Sierra de Mariola Natural Park, located near the Ulls de Canals farmhouse. A public park nearby offers parking.

Torrevieja Nature Park and La Mata Lagoons
The Torrevieja salt flats cover a vast area, with La Mata to the northwest spanning about 700 hectares. The lagoons are linked by an artificial channel created for the salt industry. The site is home to remarkable bird life, including flamingos and the black-necked grebe. A detour near Torrelamata on the N-332 provides access to these lagoons.
Visiting this area offers a chance to observe the migratory birds and to witness the stark, salt-washed landscape that defines the region.
The Algar Springs (Callosa d’En Sarrià)
Just a short drive from Benidorm and Callosa d’En Sarrià, the Algar springs form a protected wetland with rich ecological value. A 1.5-kilometer trail along the Algar River bed reveals waterfalls, springs pouring from rock faces, and natural pools—water that nourishes both body and soul.
Access is via Callosa d’En Sarrià on the CV-755, then continuing toward Bolulla and Tarbena via the CV-715. A parking area is available for visitors, with options for nearby restaurants in the area.
Orihuela
Orihuela is a treasure of historic Mediterranean architecture, hosting a range of museums and palaces of notable beauty. Several sites are designated as Cultural Interest Assets, including El Palmeral, the Circus Theatre, the Episcopal Sacred Art Museum, and the Miguel Hernández House-Museum, the birthplace of the poet born in this municipality.
The castle dominates the skyline, with remnants of fortifications and towers preserved within its walls. The surrounding area reveals a rich history and scenic vistas.

Salinas de Santa Pola Natural Park
Covering about 2,470 hectares, this area comprises salt farms, freshwater ponds, beaches, dunes, and farmlands. The park is designated as an Important Bird Area, and its Salt Museum, housed in an old salt mill, offers insights into the history and uses of salt. Visitors can explore the museum and learn about salt production, properties and history.
Along the N-332, a short drive connects the Salt Museum to Pinet.
Red Font
Everything in the Red Font region is worth exploring. The sanctuary, a holm oak and ash forest, and sights such as Cova Gelada and various vantage points create a diverse and rewarding landscape. Snow wells add seasonal charm.
Access to the Font Roja sanctuary begins from the Alicante exit on the N-340. The AP 2001 leads travelers 11 kilometers to the sanctuary parking lots where cars can be left.
