Three Arrested After Attack on Police at Guardamar del Segura Traffic Stop

Three people were detained on a Sunday following a brutal assault on two police officers who were headed to a traffic-duty assignment along Paseo de la Avenida de Europa in the coastal zone of Guardamar del Segura. Dozens of tourists captured the incident on their smartphones as it unfolded in broad daylight.

Around seven in the evening, a local police patrol assigned to traffic duties spotted a van parked illegally next to the promenade, in a zone reserved for loading and unloading only, clearly marked with painted signs. While the van owners were seated at a nearby terrace along the promenade, they approached the officers. The officers asked the driver to undergo a breathalyzer test, suspecting impairment. What began as a request escalated quickly into a confrontation involving the driver and several members of the same family who were on the terrace with minors.
