In the first week following President Vladimir Putin’s announcement of the “This Is Our Family” competition, participation surged across Russia and from 25 foreign countries, totaling more than 60,000 people and about 10,000 families. This figure comes from the competition’s organizing committee, a new initiative under the presidential platform “Russia – Land of Opportunities.”
The organizers report that the highest turnout is concentrated in Moscow, the Moscow region, and St. Petersburg. Strong interest is also evident among residents of the Sverdlovsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Chelyabinsk regions, and the Krasnodar Territory. Participation has been notable from people living in newly incorporated regions as well; among these, the Lugansk People’s Republic has seen the most registrations. Some family teams even include relatives from abroad, with potential participants drawn from Europe, North and Central America, Africa, the Middle East, and the CIS.
Registration is open through November 4, and a key requirement is that teams include members from at least three generations, comprising parents, children, and grandparents alike. Sergei Kiriyenko, First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation, emphasized that the head of state has repeatedly underscored the family as a foundational pillar of Russia’s strength and national resilience. Kiriyenko added that the central value of the “This Is Our Family” contest lies not in material prizes, though those rewards are appealing in their own right, but in the chance to achieve meaningful outcomes together as a family, to spend time united, and to form friendships with a wide circle of bright, engaging people. He noted that the tasks will be designed so that every family member can participate and contribute, regardless of age or ability. (Source: Russia – Land of Opportunities)
Alexei Komissarov, General Director of the “Russia is the Land of Opportunities” platform and Rector of the Presidential Academy (RANEPA), expressed optimism that the project will broaden the participants’ networks and help establish a lasting family community within Russia. The aim is to support families in becoming not only cohesive units but also active contributors to the country’s social and civic life. (Source: Russia – Land of Opportunities)
